Luz Y Sombra

Luz Y Sombra

Luz Y Sombra de Janiero is a 21 hectare farm in the San Rafael del Norte municipality of Jinotega. We have enjoyed the coffee both as our batch brew filter option and more recently as a sweet espresso with a real juicy body.

The farm is owned by Alfredo Aruaz Siles, who bought the land in 1990. Previously it was being farmed for grain and sugar cane cultivation, but he immediately began converting it to coffee. He started by planting Caturra alongside some Catuai, but has now moved almost entirely to the later.

All of the coffee is shade grown under guava trees which fill the air with a wonderful performed fruit aroma. This contributes to a unique profile of coffee from the farm which has competed in the cup of excellence twice.

We taste sweet green apple and lemonade, with a canary melon mouthfeel.
